Flemings Mayfair, Traditional English Afternoon Tea

The Flemings hotel was first opened in 1851, and has recently been restored and dare I say transformed into quite possibly one of the most modern and boutique hotels I have ever been too.

In recent times Fleming's has been praised for its great quality food, for example its cupcakes from The Primrose Bakery have had the celebrity seal of approval, and reportedly Jude Law has stated; 'I defy anyone to find a better cupcake!' However on this trip at least we were here for the tea only. Flemings has two choices of Afternoon Tea the Chocolate Afternoon Tea and the Traditional Afternoon Tea. On this trip we selected the Traditional Afternoon Tea, and were lucky enough to be given two of Flemings gorgeous cupcakes! And trust me they were gorgeous.

Unlike some well-known London hotels that cram hoards of tourists into stuffy outdated rooms for Afternoon Tea, Flemings, is an oasis of calm, serving a mouth-watering array of decadent treats.
Having looked over the extensive list of tea's I choose one I haven't had before Jasmine peal which was FANTASTIC! One of my best tea's I have ever had.

This afternoon tea had a lot of the additional 'trimmings' that are sometimes forgot at other locations. For example there was a wide range of jam choices for our scones (strawberry, raspberry and blueberry) and a range of exotic teas to choose from. Our waitress talked us through the different layers of our Afternoon Tea which is a pleasant touch that is often forgot, then we were left to enjoy our Tea and our beautiful surroundings.

We are assuming being Fleming's with its new modern take on things the Traditional Afternoon Tea had a twist to it. The scones were also accompanied with birthday cake and our desserts (top layer) included coconut truffles, strawberry and chocolate macaroons and lemon meringue.

We enjoyed this Afternoon Tea, it was certainly something different to what we had experienced before but also kept many of the traditional features. This Afternoon Tea would defiantly be regarded as a modern tea, and is a nice quirky place to visit for a spot of Tea.

Extra note : On the second floor of the hotel there is a beautiful traditional stained glass window, this is in honour of the hotels opening in 1851.

P.S Check out the kooky library themed library lift!

Flemings take bookings for Afternoon Tea seven days a week between 2pm and 5pm (7pm for Savoury Afternoon Tea). Prices range from £23.50 to £39.50. They cater for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets if you let them know in advance. Flemings,7-12 Half Moon StreetLondonW1J 7BH
